Weekend Dogs: Teddy's Teckels

In his comment below, Gil mentions a hunting dachshund. Our own late Diamond Lil was another, but for the best hunting dachshund pics we go to Teddy Moritz, who bred our Lil. Here is Lil, and a few of Teddy's through the years.

Not that I know, or anything, but I would theorize that using teckels/dachsunds/weinerdogs for hunting with eagles would not be advisable......L. B.

I actually have video from Kazakhstan (old-- 1980's?) showing teckels bolting a fox to be chased by tazis and eagles!

There are dachsunds in Kazakhstan? I would never have imagined. Wonder if they've ever had any boo-boos with the eagles? One of my favorite "Far Side" cartoons was the thick hedge separating the falconry meet from the teacup poodle show, with the caption "trouble brewing"...L.B.

I believe the merle
lurcher with the gray fox is a dog named Keeper. As I recall, Keeper killed a coyote that had picked up one of Teddy's dachshund while they were out hunting with the Harris Hawk. Coyote: 0, Keeper: 1, Dachshund: fine.

Hey Patrick, that was Celtic, another Hancock collie lurcher who got that coyote plus another. He was heck for treeing bears, as were the dachshunds. Keeper once kept a drunk from our door. Great dogs. Nice to see other folks using teckels as well.
